Big feelings. Gentle ways through.
Stories and creative resources that help children explore big feelings, difficult questions and the things that can be hard to put into words.
About What the World Told Us
Some feelings are too big for little words.
What the World Told Us was created from a simple idea: children deserve gentle, meaningful ways to explore the feelings and questions that can be difficult to explain.
Through stories, creative activities and thoughtfully designed resources, we create space for children to wonder, talk, draw, write and make sense of what is happening inside them — without expecting every difficult feeling to have a simple answer.
Our approach
Our resources are created to support the development of emotional literacy by helping children notice, name and communicate their feelings, build emotional vocabulary, and explore their experiences through age-appropriate reflection and creative expression. By encouraging curiosity, conversation and connection, What the World Told Us aims to provide practical tools that can complement the important social and emotional learning already happening at home, in educational settings and alongside child-focused professionals.
Inspired by nature, connection and the conversations children sometimes need help beginning, our resources are designed to be used by families, educators and other professionals supporting children.
Behind What the World Told Us is Jacqui De Araugo, an Australian writer and education support professional with more than 15 years' experience working alongside children and young people.
This is a growing collection of stories and resources created with one belief at its heart:
Big feelings don't always need fixing. Sometimes they need somewhere safe to be heard.
Supporting emotional literacy, one conversation at a time.
Children don't always have the words to explain what they're feeling — especially when emotions are big, complicated or unfamiliar.
What the World Told Us creates stories and thoughtful resources that encourage children to recognise, explore and express their emotions in ways that feel gentle, safe and accessible.
Through storytelling, reflection and creative activities, our resources are designed to nurture emotional literacy, self-awareness and meaningful conversations between children and the adults who support them.
Because sometimes understanding a feeling begins simply by finding the words for it.
